What is a TMA?

This post is also available in: German

TMA means “Tutor Marked Assignment”. It is kind of shorter examination in distance-learning courses. In the humanities, TMA usually means a short or mid-length academic essay. In A215 (and A363) every TMA requires a short piece of writing (fiction, poetry or live writing) plus a personal reflection on its creation process.

Depending on the modules length and level it requires the students to submit 3 to 7 TMA. The module ends either with a mid-lengths essay (called EMA) or an exam.

More information about TMAs can be found on the Open University’s website.-
